AITA for leaving a woman stranded after she insulted me while I was trying to help her?

This morning was absolutely freezing, with the temperature dipping to about 12 degrees and a brutal wind chill to boot. On my way to work, I spotted this woman in the grocery store parking lot, standing beside her car with the hood up, waving her arms to flag down help. I’m no mechanic, but I know how to jump-start a car, so I decided to pull over and lend a hand. Oh, and I should mention, I’m a woman too.

I rolled down my window and asked if she needed a jump, and she stormed over, snapping, “Finally! What took you so long? Are you blind? I’ve been stuck here forever!” I tried not to let her attitude get to me, so I got out with my jumper cables.

While I was hooking them up, she was more interested in her phone than in the help I was offering. When the car didn’t start immediately, I told her it might need a few minutes to charge up, and she lost it. She said, “Are you even doing this right? What’s the point of stopping if you’re just wasting my time?”

I kept my cool and suggested she be patient, but then she took a look at my car which isn’t exactly a looker – and sneered, “Figures, you drive a piece of junk and you’re trying to help me. I should’ve waited for someone who actually knows what they’re doing, like a man.”

That was my breaking point. I unhooked everything, packed up, and walked back to my car. As I was leaving, she yelled, “Where are you going? You can’t just leave me here!”

I replied, “Watch me,” and drove off. She threw her coffee cup at my car and cursed me out as I left.

So, AITA for walking away and leaving her stranded? I mean, I was genuinely trying to help, but her attitude was just too much. I know it’s unsafe for a woman to be stuck like that, but my friend argued I should have helped her because of “girl code”. However, I feel like she broke that code first with her behavior.

A lot of folks backed me up, saying that I wasn’t the asshole here. They argued that while helping someone in need is commendable, you don’t have to endure abuse or disrespect. One comment was, “NTA. No good deed goes unpunished, huh? She was ungrateful and rude, you don’t owe her your time or help after that.” Another said, “You tried to help, and she treated you like dirt. Girl code or not, respect goes both ways.”
