I came across this post on Reddit that really stuck with me. A woman (23F) shared her experience about a situation with a guy (31M) she’d been seeing since January. They had been close recently, using protection part of the time. The next morning, she unexpectedly got her period.

He noticed the used items and got extremely upset, saying he felt “traumatized” because he never would’ve done certain things if he’d known she was about to start her period. She explained she didn’t know her period was coming, as she hadn’t missed any birth control pills. Despite this, she apologized and even tried making peace by bringing him food but it didn’t help.

When they talked again, he reiterated how “traumatized” he felt, claiming she’d made the experience unappealing for him and that he regretted not using protection the entire time. He even said he only made certain choices because he considered her comfort, which now made him feel worse.

“You don’t control when you get it, and stress can make it arrive early. He’s just not able to handle it. I imagine every month he would pass out at the sight of a sanitary product dodged a bullet.”

“He is 31 years old and doesn’t know how periods work? Boy, bye. You ain’t got time for that.”

Reading this made me wonder how some adults can be so uneducated or unwilling to understand about something as natural as menstruation. It seems like a huge red flag that he reacted with such intensity and made her feel guilty for something she couldn’t control.

What would you do in her situation? Is this something worth trying to fix, or is it time to move on and avoid someone who can’t handle basic aspects of adult relationships?
