I’ve been at my job for a decade now, which comes with the perk of 30 PTO days a year plus holidays. My wife, however, only gets 17 PTO days, including holidays. Given my surplus of days, I’ve started taking random days off for some personal time, or “me stuff,” since I can’t always use them with her. But whenever I inform my wife about taking a day off, something always seems to come up that disrupts my plans.
A minor sniffle that we wouldn’t normally keep our kid home for suddenly requires me to stay with him. Or I’m asked to help with chores that take up most of the day, or assist her mom with various tasks.
Last week, I decided to take a day off without mentioning it to her. I spent it playing video games, meeting a friend for lunch, and taking a nap. Naturally, when she found out, she was quite upset about it.
One person humorously compared it to an episode from “Malcolm in the Middle.” Another commenter cynically noted, “I like the idea of people just posting plots to sitcoms and everyone arguing over it. Most of these posts are fake anyway.”
