When my dad’s parents told my mom that I wasn’t their “real” grandson it felt like the floor dropped out from under me. They said it in the middle of an argument unprovoked and in front of me and my younger brother. I never thought I’d find myself in a situation like this but here I am trying to make sense of it all. My mom (43F) has been dating a man named Dave (45M) for about a year. At first he seemed nice enough if a little distant. I didn’t think much of him but over time something about his behavior began to feel off.
I recently came into some money and now face a difficult decision that has created tension in my family. My wife and I have three children and while I believe the fairest way to handle the money is to split it equally among them my wife feels differently.
