I had been looking forward to a peaceful getaway staying in a nice hotel room with a king bed and a stunning city view something I paid extra for. But from the moment I checked in everything started going wrong.
Instead of the room I booked I was given one with two twin beds and a view of the parking lot. I took a deep breath went back to the front desk and explained the mistake calmly. The receptionist apologized and handed me a new key assuring me the issue would be fixed.
It wasn’t.
The second room they gave me had a queen bed and no view to speak of not what I’d paid for either. Frustrated but trying to keep my composure I returned to the front desk. They apologized again and assured me the third time would be the charm. Spoiler: it wasn’t. The third room wasn’t even cleaned with towels strewn across the floor and an unmade bed.
At that point I was exhausted and furious. I went back to the desk for the third time and this time I snapped. I didn’t yell or swear but I raised my voice and made it clear how ridiculous it was to still not have the room I paid for after three attempts. The receptionist looked flustered and explained they were doing their best but by then I was too frustrated to care.
Eventually they upgraded me to a suite which was a decent resolution but the whole ordeal left a sour taste in my mouth. Later when I told a friend about it they said I overreacted and that the receptionist wasn’t to blame since they don’t control everything about room assignments.
I can’t help but feel I was justified in my frustration after being sent on a wild goose chase for the room I paid for. Still I wonder if I went too far by snapping at the person behind the desk.
